#TeenLinkNeedToKnowAwardShow: The 67th Annual Emmy Awards

The Emmy’s. A night of competition, Cartier, and much needed appreciation of comedy. TV’s biggest stars walked the red carpet and surprises ensued. Veep sweeped, Hamm leaped, and Andy Samberg tried to tell jokes... Free HBO for everyone!!! Let’s recap the 2015 Emmy Awards.

Best dressed:

January Jones took a huge fashion risk and it definitely paid off! Stunning in this emerald Ulyana Sergeenko Couture pantsuit, with minimal jewelry and simple hair, the look comes together perfectly and gives the star the goodbye she needed, as the 7th and final season of Mad Men just came to a close earlier this summer.

Best dressed couple:

How to tell if someone is insane? They don’t think that Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello are the best looking couple on the planet. They compliment each other perfectly on the red carpet! Joe looked dapper in a midnight black tux and Sofia shined in a predictable, yet gorgeous St. John gown, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and her new perfume ‘Love’, inspired by her hometown and her upcoming November nuptials to Joe. (P.S. Sources say they have reserved the fabulous Breakers resort in West Palm Beach for their ceremony! Those celebs just love them some sunshine state!) (P.S.2 I’m crashing their wedding if anyone would like to join me.) (P.S.3 You think I’m joking…)

Best acceptance speech:

Taraji P Henson, Kerry Washington, and pretty much ALL OF AMERICA shed a good amount of tears last night. Why? Not because they lost, but because Viola Davis made a moving speech as she was the first ever African American woman to win outstanding actress in a drama series for How to Get Away with Murder, a show in which I have just recently starting watching and LOVE. She is absolutely deserving of this award; shes a great actress, the story lines on the show are compelling and Alfred Enoch is so cute omg I litera….. ok wait where was I? Viola began her inspirational speech by quoting Harriet Tubman, saying, "In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me over that line, but I can't seem to get there no how. I can't seem to get over that line.' That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s." Her words were important and moving, executed perfectly with an emotional punch. Viola also recognized some fellow actresses as “people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman, to be black.”

Best OMG Moment:

Alright, if you know me or have looked through this blog at all, you know that I love award shows. But if I’m being honest, the 2015 Emmy’s were not necessarily filled with jaw droppers. But that’s not to say that there were no funny moments! There were two that stood out to me, one being when Jon Hamm FINALLY won Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series after being nominated a whopping eight times, and sprinted to the middle of the stage, pulled himself up and slid to the microphone stomach down (but still proud as ever). The other moment was when Amy Poehler and Amy Schumer presented the first award, introducing themselves as “We Are Amy”, or “America’s New Favorite Duo”. Sorry Tina, but all I’m thinking is #AmysquaredEmmys2016.

While the Oscars and Golden Globes try to be entertaining, and the VMA’s are too entertaining, I feel as though the Emmy’s are a good balance. High ratings and social media buzz always accompany the star studded event, due to what I believe is it’s diversity in content, as well as the fact that streaming TV shows has become more popular than ever. Unlike the Oscars, the Emmy’s recognize comedies! This leads to a greater appreciation for the comedic art form amongst most viewers, as well as an excuse for comedians to present awards and lighten the mood with some often much needed jokes. I will never understand why exactly the Oscars nominates actors and actresses as well as full motions pictures as just “lead” or “supporting” rather than comedic or dramatic. Maybe it’s because it’s easier for them to just nominate all the Real movies, the dramas, for the prestigious awards? Maybe they’re just pretentious? Maybe they just hate Jonah Hill? Who knows.

That wraps up the #TeenLinkNeedToKnowAwardShow 2015 Emmy's recap! I hope you enjoyed! Thanks for reading!
