#TeenLinkNeedToKnowAwardShow: The 67th Annual Emmy Awards

The Emmy’s. A night of competition, Cartier, and much needed appreciation of comedy. TV’s biggest stars walked the red carpet and surprises ensued. Veep sweeped, Hamm leaped, and Andy Samberg tried to tell jokes... Free HBO for everyone!!! Let’s recap the 2015 Emmy Awards.

Best dressed:

January Jones took a huge fashion risk and it definitely paid off! Stunning in this emerald Ulyana Sergeenko Couture pantsuit, with minimal jewelry and simple hair, the look comes together perfectly and gives the star the goodbye she needed, as the 7th and final season of Mad Men just came to a close earlier this summer.

Best dressed couple:

How to tell if someone is insane? They don’t think that Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello are the best looking couple on the planet. They compliment each other perfectly on the red carpet! Joe looked dapper in a midnight black tux and Sofia shined in a predictable, yet gorgeous St. John gown, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and her new perfume ‘Love’, inspired by her hometown and her upcoming November nuptials to Joe. (P.S. Sources say they have reserved the fabulous Breakers resort in West Palm Beach for their ceremony! Those celebs just love them some sunshine state!) (P.S.2 I’m crashing their wedding if anyone would like to join me.) (P.S.3 You think I’m joking…)

Best acceptance speech:

Taraji P Henson, Kerry Washington, and pretty much ALL OF AMERICA shed a good amount of tears last night. Why? Not because they lost, but because Viola Davis made a moving speech as she was the first ever African American woman to win outstanding actress in a drama series for How to Get Away with Murder, a show in which I have just recently starting watching and LOVE. She is absolutely deserving of this award; shes a great actress, the story lines on the show are compelling and Alfred Enoch is so cute omg I litera….. ok wait where was I? Viola began her inspirational speech by quoting Harriet Tubman, saying, "In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me over that line, but I can't seem to get there no how. I can't seem to get over that line.' That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s." Her words were important and moving, executed perfectly with an emotional punch. Viola also recognized some fellow actresses as “people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman, to be black.”

Best OMG Moment:

Alright, if you know me or have looked through this blog at all, you know that I love award shows. But if I’m being honest, the 2015 Emmy’s were not necessarily filled with jaw droppers. But that’s not to say that there were no funny moments! There were two that stood out to me, one being when Jon Hamm FINALLY won Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series after being nominated a whopping eight times, and sprinted to the middle of the stage, pulled himself up and slid to the microphone stomach down (but still proud as ever). The other moment was when Amy Poehler and Amy Schumer presented the first award, introducing themselves as “We Are Amy”, or “America’s New Favorite Duo”. Sorry Tina, but all I’m thinking is #AmysquaredEmmys2016.

While the Oscars and Golden Globes try to be entertaining, and the VMA’s are too entertaining, I feel as though the Emmy’s are a good balance. High ratings and social media buzz always accompany the star studded event, due to what I believe is it’s diversity in content, as well as the fact that streaming TV shows has become more popular than ever. Unlike the Oscars, the Emmy’s recognize comedies! This leads to a greater appreciation for the comedic art form amongst most viewers, as well as an excuse for comedians to present awards and lighten the mood with some often much needed jokes. I will never understand why exactly the Oscars nominates actors and actresses as well as full motions pictures as just “lead” or “supporting” rather than comedic or dramatic. Maybe it’s because it’s easier for them to just nominate all the Real movies, the dramas, for the prestigious awards? Maybe they’re just pretentious? Maybe they just hate Jonah Hill? Who knows.

Celebrities Top 5 Favorite Places to Grab an Iced Coffee (kind of?!)

On a smoldering hot day, with places to go and people to meet, what’s better than a rich and refreshing iced coffee? Iced coffee has become a way of life for teenagers here in South Florida, from Dunkin’ to Starbucks, we can’t get enough. But celebrities jumped on this bandwagon long ago, and it doesn’t seem like they’re getting off any time soon. So where do they go to get a jolt of java? Take a look as I countdown celebrities’ top 5 favorite places to grab an iced coffee!
Ok, so I did my research and found that there was much less of what I was looking for than I expected. The intro up there ^^ is not very accurate. Myself, being an avid follower of everything “famous people”, thought that I would find tons of pictures of tons of celebrities at tons of different coffee shops. But really all I could find was a few Starbucks cups here and there, a couple of Dunkin’ Donuts ones too. But what stood out where these bright purple straws sticking out of a bunch of celebs iced coffees. I found out that these straws belonged to coffee that came from the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, a chain of trendy coffee shops that are located all across the country, with a bunch in L.A. And when I tell you pretty much every celebrity gets coffee here, I mean pretty much every celebrity gets coffee here. Vanessa Hudgens, Lucy Hale, Miley Cyrus, Ashley Benson, Naya Rivera, Scott Disick, Ashley Tisdale, Megan Fox, David Beckham, Hilary Duff, Mila Kunis, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Joe Jonas, Emma Roberts and Shay Mitchell, just to name a few. Reasons why this place is so popular among A-listers? It’s trendy, the purple on their cups and straws makes them look really pretty and recognizable, and as they say on their website "we select only the top one percent of Arabica beans and finest hand-plucked, whole leaf teas” (which I guess means their drinks are delicious). Plus they donate money to and sponsor a load of great charities like Support At Home and Aid Lanka Kids Foundation.

The point is, South Florida prefers orange and green straws, L.A. prefers purple. But no matter where you are, a refreshing iced coffee is right around the corner.

THIS IS NOT AN AD FOR THE COFFEE BEAN AND TEA LEAF/
ICED COFFEE OF ANY KIND.
I’m just letting you know that if you’d like to get a nice iced coffee with some celebs on the side, look out for a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf on your next trip to L.A., you never know who you’ll see :-)

#TeenLinkNeedToKnowAwardShow The 86th Annual Academy Awards

The Oscars. The Academy Awards. Film’s biggest night. Whatever you call it, it’s a pretty big deal. Hollywood’s biggest movie actors were all there, decked out in the finest from Givenchy to Gucci and Prada to Posen. Ellen hosted, ordered pizza, took some “average” selfies, and you know just kinda BROKE TWITTER (no really she did). It was the most watched Oscars telecast since 2005, and the most watched Entertainment program since the “Friends” finale… why you ask? Let’s recap the 2014 Academy Awards.

Best dressed:

Portia De Rossi looked flawless in this Naeem Khan ivory lace gown. The halter-top and detailed lace made the dress uber fabulous and feminine. Even though she is best known simply for being Ellen DeGeneres’ wife, she has a style all of her own. Even though Portia, an actress herself, was not nominated that night, she definitely looked Oscar worthy.

Best dressed couple:

Humanitarians by day, hot couple by night! Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie looked stunning as a pair on the red carpet. Angelina looked gorgeous in an Elie Saab Haute Couture gown, along with 42 carat diamond earrings. Brad looked dapper in his Tom Ford tux and bow tie.  Brangelina strikes again!

Best acceptance speech:

Two speeches definitely stood out among the rest at the show on Sunday. Jared Leto won best supporting actor for his role in Dallas Buyers Club and gave an inspiring speech, thanking his mom and brother and saying “those of you out there who have ever felt injustice because of who you are or who you love, tonight I stand here in front of the world with you and for you.” Such kind words from a newcomer to the Oscars stage. Speaking of newcomers, Lupita Nyong'o, who won best supporting actress for her role in 12 Years a Slave (which snagged best picture) also had some uplifting words for the crowd… and the world. "No matter where you're from, your dreams are valid."

Best OMG moment:

If there was a Beyoncé of selfies, this would be it. Ellen rounded up her favorite celebs to take a star-studded selfie. Smiles galore, the pic was complete with actors Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Julia Roberts, and more. Ellen posted the picture to Twitter with the caption “If only Bradley’s arm was longer. Best picture ever. #oscars” The selfie got over 2 million retweets in the first hour of being posted, the most retweets ever of any tweet! Ellen claims that the pic “broke Twitter”, which is actually somewhat true, as the site shut down for a few minutes after it was posted. Go Ellen and her selfie of the century!

Most awkward moment:

John Travolta, in all his plastic faced glory, was ready and excited to introduce Idina Menzel for her performance of “Let It Go” from the animated feature Frozen. But instead of saying her actual name, the only thing he could get out was Adele Dazeem. Seriously? ADELE DAZEEM?! You could almost hear the entire globe simultaneously sigh/hysterically laugh.

Oh and there was pizza… plenty of it. Ellen ordered some for the crowd, and hilarity ensued. Jennifer scarfed down her piece, Leonardo was too nervous to find out the results of his Oscar nom that he simply had no time for food, and Jared was of course a gentleman and gave his slice to his adoring mother. All Jared Leto cares about is school, and his mom, and his friends… well mostly his mom.
